Travel Tips Part 2: In Flight

airport-style-saramuellerOne of the things that I always put a lot of thought into is my in-flight travel experience -- especially on an overnight flight. I want to look polished, but also feel comfortable. I also like having with me a few items that will make the experience more pleasurable.Avoid the "Jet Bloat"A main concern of mine during flying is to avoid becoming bloated. You know the feeling when your shoes start to feel really tight and your rings start to bother you because your fingers also start swelling. If that doesn't happen to you, how lucky are you! I've actually been doing a lot of reading on this, and as it turns out it has to do with the decrease in atmospheric pressure and available oxygen. Here's a few things to do prior and during the flight. Before your flight: Eat a leafy, healthy salad and avoid salty foods. If you plan on drinking alcohol it's best to drink before your flight. This way you can really rehydrate your body with water prior to boarding.During your flight: Drink a lot of water {I like taking my own bottle}. Choose a meal that is high in fiber with a lot of veggies and whole grains, and say no to alcoholic drinks. For a snack, pick up a container of chopped fresh fruit before boarding. And instead of coffee, drink hot water with lemon as it stimulates digestion. While you may feel in vacation mode and want to enjoy a glass of wine during your flight, I would reserve it for prior to flying or when you arrive to your destination.priority-boarding-paris-saramuellerIn-Flight Travel EssentialsWater bottle: As I mentioned above, you want to hydrate to avoid becoming bloated. Hydrating will also help with jet lag.A City Guide: I like re-reading it in case I've missed something important.Slip silk eye mask: For when lights go on during the flight and you're snoozing you won't be bothered.Book/magazines: If it's a long flight, I like to have options. This way you choose if you want to read or watch a movie.Socks: I usually travel in flats, but I always carry socks in my purse because my feet always get cold.A big scarf: Even during summer, I like to use my scarf as blanket.Snacks: Fruit cup.See my travel tips part 1.
